What usually goes on sale in this category
Based on how the last few October events played out, not a prediction of this one:
- Previous-generation power stations. When a brand ships a Gen 2, the Gen 1 is the unit that moves. The Gen 1 is usually still the right buy for a Florida fridge-and-fans outage.
- Mid-size 1kWh–2kWh LiFePO4 units. The volume sweet spot, and the tier most often bundled with a panel.
- Expansion batteries. Frequently discounted harder than the base unit — the cheapest way to double runtime if you already own the host station.
- Portable solar panels, especially in station + panel bundles.

The mistake people make in a sale is buying the biggest discount instead of the right unit. Write these five answers down before October and the decision takes thirty seconds later.
1. Capacity (Wh) — how long, not how strong

2. Continuous output (W) — what you can plug in at once
Add the running watts of everything you'd run simultaneously, then check the unit'scontinuous rating, not its peak. Fridge compressors surge on startup; that's what the peak number is for. A window AC or a well pump pushes you well past the 1800W line.
3. Chemistry — LiFePO4 or don't bother
LiFePO4 (LFP) cells are rated for thousands of cycles and tolerate Florida heat and garage storage far better than older NMC packs. Every unit we recommend for storm duty is LFP. If a listing won't say the chemistry, that's the answer.
4. Recharge speed — the number nobody checks
Outages come in waves. A unit that refills from wall power in about an hour lets you top off during a restoration window; one that needs eight hours doesn't. Also confirm the solar input ceiling matches the panel you'd actually buy.
5. Weight and ports — the boring dealbreakers
Can one person carry it up stairs or into a car for an evacuation? Does it have the DC output your CPAP needs, and enough USB-C for the whole household's phones? Count the outlets against your actual list.
