Power

  • Backup power source sized to your loads (fridge needs 1,000–1,500Wh/day)
  • A way to recharge with the grid down — solar panel or generator (outdoors, 20+ ft)
  • Every battery in the house at 100% when a watch is issued: phones, laptops, power banks, tools
  • Heavy 12-gauge extension cords — thin cords sag and melt under load

Safety

  • Working CO alarm on every level — test it TODAY, not during the storm
  • Generator plan written down: 20+ feet out, exhaust away from every window, never in a garage
  • Flashlights/lanterns, one per room — not candles
  • First-aid kit and 7 days of prescriptions (Florida allows early refills once a state of emergency is declared)

Food & water

  • 1 gallon of water per person per day, 7 days
  • Fridge and freezer turned to coldest setting before landfall; freezer gaps filled with water jugs
  • Appliance thermometer in fridge and freezer — after the outage it is your only proof food stayed under 40°F
  • Cooler + ice plan for medications (insulin: never touching ice directly)

Connect & decide

  • NOAA weather radio with batteries or crank
  • Insurance docs, IDs and prescriptions photographed to cloud storage
  • Evacuation trigger written down — the battery % or hour count at which you leave
  • One lamp left plugged in as your power-restoration alarm; everything else unplugged before restoration
